Agriton ÆGIR is crushed seashell grit, rich in high-quality calcium carbonate (CaCO3), that buffers acidic soils. Aegir slowly returns the soils pH to neutral without ever over buffering and continue to regulate the pH over a three-year period.
Soil Microbes are very sensitive to changes in soil pH and therefore a slower correction will maintain the amicrobial population rather than kill it off.
ÆGIR also contains a lot of trace elements and minerals that are vital to creating healthy and fertile soils.
Lime has been the go to soil pH amendment product, as it’s cheap, readily available and effective. But did you know that for every tonne of lime added to the soil 440kgs of CO2 is lost to the atmosphere.
This sudden rise in pH is extremely effective at killing soil microbes that are essential to soil health. It is why Lime is used as an antiseptic bedding powder in diary cubicles. (Find our microbe friendly alternative ‘Vulkamin Powder’ here)
ÆGIR releases CO2 in such low levels over a long period of time that any growing crops will be able to use the CO2 for respiration. It is safe to apply while animals are still grazing.
